Allen Calling on Griswold to Fully Audit Certification of Game Managers Prior to May 28th Gazette Debate
Colorado Springs, Colorado – A new column in the Gazette raises fresh questions about why Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold has failed to aggressively investigate convicted felons, registered sex offenders, and other troubling individuals operating within Colorado’s $110 million charitable gaming system.
In Colorado, Secretary of State Jena Griswold is directly responsible for oversight of the state’s charitable gaming system and according to an investigative report by the Gazette, a review of approximately 10% of certified game managers exposed convicted felons and registered sex offenders certified as game managers. Despite those findings, Griswold has failed to audit the remaining 90% of the list over the past seven months.
Additionally, the Gazette, “…found dozens of other certified games managers with histories of misdemeanor theft and fraud convictions, bankruptcies and other financial and legal troubles such as not paying bills or even their income taxes — backgrounds that would disqualify them from working bingo in every other state, but not in Colorado.”
While the gaming certifications of six individuals specifically identified in the Gazette’s reporting have been terminated, Griswold has continually dragged her feet on auditing the remaining 90% of the list for the past seven months and has stonewalled the press with spokespeople instead of addressing the topic directly.
“It’s unconscionable that Jena Griswold wants to be Colorado’s next Attorney General when she can’t even be bothered to clean out the felons, sex offenders, and criminals operating in the state’s $110 million charitable gaming system – an issue directly under her control and authority,” said Fourth Judicial District Attorney and Republican candidate for Attorney General Michael Allen. “Critics allege Griswold is intentionally slow walking this investigation to benefit herself politically in the race for Attorney General and keep negative news out of the headlines. Secretary of State Jena Griswold must fully audit the list of charitable game managers immediately to ensure felons and sex offenders are not illegally operating in the system and report the results to the people of Colorado at the Gazette’s May 28th debate. As a prosecutor who has taken on murderers and criminals face-to-face in the courtroom and sent them to jail for their crimes, I can say without hesitation that as Colorado’s next Attorney General, I will never be afraid to take on criminals and the politicians who refuse to enforce the law.”
Michael Allen is serving his second term as the 4th Judicial District Attorney, which covers El Paso and Teller Counties. He is a devoted husband, father, and Navy Veteran. To learn more about Michael Allen’s campaign, visit www.MichaelAllenforColorado.com.
